Captain's Procedures
Welcome Aboard
Welcome to ThriftyPort, the harbor for secondhand goods, treasures, outfits, collectibles, crafts, and useful items looking for a second voyage.
ThriftyPort is a marketplace platform. We do not buy, sell, inspect, authenticate, clean, repair, store, or guarantee any items listed on this website. We simply provide a place where Captains (our users) can list items for sale, donate items through Captain's Locker, and purchase items from other Captains.
Please read these procedures carefully before listing, donating, or purchasing cargo.
The Golden Rule
The price you see is the price you pay.
No hidden fees.
No surprise checkout charges.
No extra service fees added at checkout.
If an item is listed for $20.00, the buyer pays $20.00.
It is the seller's responsibility to include shipping costs and any desired profit in the listed price.
Listing Cargo
To list an item:
-
Take one or more clear photographs.
-
Provide an accurate description.
-
Select a price.
-
Submit the listing.
The listed price should already include shipping costs.
We have the site already organized with sizes, brands, categories, genders, etc. use them. This will help purchases find your products and help you sell your product; keeps everything ship shape.
If you list an item for less than it costs to ship, that is your responsibility.
By listing an item, you acknowledge that you are responsible for shipping the item to the purchaser.
Once Listed, It's Listed
Once a listing is submitted and published, it cannot be removed without paying the minimum listing fee.
The current minimum fee is $1.00 per listing.
This fee applies whether the item sells or not.
Do not list items you are not prepared to ship.
Do not list items that are no longer available.
Do not list items you intend to sell elsewhere while simultaneously offering them on ThriftyPort.
Funds Held Until Delivery
When a buyer purchases an item:
-
The buyer submits payment.
-
Funds are held.
-
The seller receives shipment instructions.
-
The seller ships the item.
-
The seller provides a tracking number.
-
Delivery is confirmed.
-
Funds are released.
This process helps ensure that both parties complete their responsibilities.
This process is true whether using bank wire transfer, credit / debit card, cashapp, vemo, bitcoin, whatever currency.
Remember each of these has a fee depending on how much of a pain in the arse it is on me and other captains. This ain't some big corporation here, it's kind of a one person shop built in a trailer. It may look cool and look legit, which it is, but there is no bending over backwards for only a dollar. Kapeesh.
That being said, no we do not need help building websites, improving websites, or doing payment transactions, we got it. Thanks.
Ship Within Three Days
After a sale:
The seller must provide a valid tracking number within three days.
Seller Listed, Purchaser Purchased, Seller Must Ship
Failure to ship an item may result in immediate account suspension.
Repeated failure to ship items may result in permanent removal from the platform.
Yes, if the seller doesn't ship the item you get your money back less our fee and any other transaction fees another party may charge.
Fortunately, those fees are paid by Argsurance if the Lister Opted into an Argsurance plan. (see Argsurance blog)
If you're afraid of buying an item and not getting it and having to pay the fee then only buy from Argsurance Listers.
Buyer Survey
After delivery, the buyer is asked to complete a survey.
The survey may include questions such as:
-
Was the item as described?
-
Was the item clean?
-
Was the correct item received?
-
Would you purchase from this Captain again?
Survey responses contribute to the Captain's reputation score.
Captain Reputation
Captains are expected to maintain good standing.
Consistently poor survey results, inaccurate descriptions, misleading photos, repeated shipping failures, or other harmful behavior may result in account restrictions or removal.
Our goal is to maintain a harbor where buyers can confidently browse and purchase cargo.
New Captain Probation
New Captains begin on probation.
During probation:
-
Maximum of 10 active sale listings
-
Maximum of 10 donation listings
Probation is lifted after three successfully completed transactions.
Successful transactions include completed delivery and acceptable survey results.
Captain's Locker Donations
Captain's Locker allows users to donate items instead of selling them.
Donated items are made available through the Captain's Locker section of the website.
Donors may receive a donation acknowledgment receipt for their records.
ThriftyPort does not assign values to donated items.
Users are responsible for maintaining their own tax records and consulting qualified tax professionals regarding any tax treatment.
Full Outfit Cargo
Certain listings may be sold as complete outfit packages.
Examples include:
-
Sunday Best
-
Girls' Night Out
-
Cool Grandpa
-
Steampunk Captain
-
Gothic Harbor
-
Job Interview Outfit
Outfit listings are sold as complete sets.
Individual pieces are not available separately unless specifically listed as separate items.
No Direct Contact
ThriftyPort is designed to minimize unnecessary communication between parties.
Buyers and sellers do not communicate directly through the platform.
Information required to complete shipping and delivery may be exchanged as necessary to fulfill the transaction.
Look, when a user uses ThriftyPort website and creates an account we get the ip adress, and some stuff that tells us what computer you're using and yes we know what a vpn is, and
we know all the little tricks of using a different email, using a different phone number, using a temporary phone number, using a computer at the library, and all that stuff, just be honest okay;
if get banned it was probably for a reason.
And appeals at captainsmast (captainsmast@thriftyport.com) ain't some open form of public disputes between listers, purchasers, donors, bots, and whomever else we ain't going to try and solve a dispute, that's not our job. You've got the address of the the lister and the lister has the address of the purchaser, handle it yourself with the golden rule using snail mail if you have to, just leave me out of it. That email is for those rare case instances where an account is banned and there is some sort of actual legitimate excuse or technical error that needs to allow for an account ban to be lifted, otherwise just make a new account and try not to be an arse hole next time.
There are scammers out there, just aim to be something different.
If someone else wants to come up with a list of known scammers somewhere else then we ain't stopping them.
And no, we ain't going to put that info up out there on the marketplace or wherever they're doing it now adays and selling that info to other arse hole captains that want to advertise to every captain and track their every got dang move. We ain't doing that. The data (ip address, and some stuff that tells us what computer you're using and stuff, emails, account info, address and bank stuff or transaction things, and photos, and item stuff, basically the info that we collect) is only used for the purposes of conducting a business transaction and for the services that we provide. Rather than hiding that in some sorta bull hockey privacy policy I figured right here would be good enough.
We Are Not The Seller
ThriftyPort is not the seller.
ThriftyPort is not the buyer.
ThriftyPort is not the donor.
ThriftyPort is not the recipient.
We provide the platform, process payments, maintain the marketplace, and collect service fees necessary to keep the harbor operating.
Transactions occur between users of the platform.
